Dr. Peter Robertson Honored at American Heart Association Celebration of Heart Event

On March 23, 2023, leaders from the American Heart Association and Ascension Saint Thomas  gathered with community members for the American Heart Association's annual Celebration of Heart event. Dr. Peter Robertson, electrophysiologist with Ascension Saint Thomas Heart, was honored with the inaugural Live Fierce Award.

Shakesbeer RETURNS!

VIProfile: Rick Sain

Born and raised in Bedford County, Rick Sain grew up on a farm in Bell Buckle. There he learned a strong work ethic as he helped his family raise beef cattle, soybeans, wheat and corn. He always thought he was going to be a farmer. That is until his senior year in high school. That is the year he began working at the local Revco Drug Store.

Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Adds New Heart Device to Cardiac Program

Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford is pleased to announce they will now be housing the Impella Cardiac Power (CP), the world’s smallest heart pump, at their hospital. Previously, all patients that needed more advanced cardiac care were transported to Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital West. With the addition of this technology, our physicians can now perform procedures on more complex and high-risk patients.

VIProfile: Don and Hanna Witherspoon

On Don and Hanna Witherspoon’s first anniversary, Hanna waved good-bye from the dock in Long Beach, California, as Don left for Vietnam on a troopship. Hanna wrote a letter to her husband every day, and from a rice paddy Don tore a c-ration carton into the shape of a heart and mailed it with a letter back to her for Valentine’s Day.

An Historic Home Full of Stories Under the Trees

Historic Sam Davis Home sits behind a stacked stone wall and iron gate, past a canopy of trees and surrounded by active fields of corn, sunflowers, hay and soy beans. Once an 800-acre farm, the Sam Davis Memorial Association (SDMA), a 501(c)3 which governs the property, still farms 98 acres of the 168 acres managed by the association with rotating crops.
