Walk To End Alzheimer's Memory Walk

Story and photography by Eric Lusk

Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. This inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to join the fight against the disease!

Rutherford County’s Alzheimer’s Association Executive Director, Michelle Thomas once again out-did herself when planning this year’s local Memory Walk. Raising nearly $300,000 for research and education, the walk was an enjoyable experience for everyone involved. There were abundant smiles, a few tears of those thinking of loved ones afflicted by this disease and some shivering from the freezing temperatures. Delta Beta Sigma’s Lindsey Stone beautifully delivered the National Anthem. She was comically accompanied by Cynthialynn Jones’s Blue Tick Hound, “Johnny Cash” (who unexpectedly howled along to the singing!).

The walk is still accepting donations… so if you’d like to contribute, please email mlthomas@alz.org!
