STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY ROSEANN BARTON
Hop Springs was certainly “hopping” during the annual Boro BBQ Festival, as crowds gathered to enjoy a picture-perfect day filled with mouthwatering aromas and lively entertainment. The scent of freshly smoked barbecue drifted across the grounds, where teams competed in a KCBS-sanctioned contest, showcasing their best recipes and techniques.
Families explored food trucks, browsed local merchant booths and watched children laugh and play in designated activity areas. Live performances by the Jeff Woods Band and the Midnight Riders kept the energy high throughout the day. With free admission, the festival welcomed a large and enthusiastic crowd while raising important funds for local non-profits.
Traditionally held on Kentucky Derby weekend, organizers have already confirmed the popular event will return to Hop Springs in 2027.
