Westlawn Hospital Marks One Year: A New Era of Healthcare in Rutherford County

The Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Westlawn campus, located just off Veterans Parkway near I-840, has officially completed its first year of operation. As the first "neighborhood hospital" in Tennessee, Westlawn offers a unique medical experience to the residents of Rutherford County and surrounding areas.

Brittney Urso, the hospital administrator, shared that Westlawn has treated a substantial number of patients since opening its doors. She noted that ailments such as respiratory infections, minor injuries, and gastrointestinal issues have been among the most common reasons for patient visits.

Westlawn is the first hospital of its kind in Tennessee...Known as a “neighborhood hospital” or sometimes called a “micro-hospital,” it offers many of the same services provided by larger, traditional facilities, including emergency care, diagnostic imaging, and inpatient services. However, one of the key advantages of a neighborhood hospital is its shorter wait times, which have been a major draw for the local community. Patients can receive quick, quality care without the long waits often experienced in bigger hospitals, Urso explained.

The concept of neighborhood hospitals is gaining traction across the country. Their smaller size and community-focused approach allow for more personalized care, while still providing essential medical services. As Urso pointed out, they are seeing firsthand in Murfreesboro how these smaller facilities can help patients in a more efficient and positive way, especially during times of urgent need.

Westlawn’s first year has not only been a milestone for the hospital itself but also for the community it serves. With a continued focus on patient-centered care and rapid response, Westlawn is setting the standard for micro-hospitals in Tennessee and beyond.

Westlawn is located directly off of Veterans Parkway and next to I-840 (5127 Veterans Pkwy, Murfreesboro, TN 37128). Open 24 hours a day, you can visit or call the facility at (629) 543-6000.
