Story and photography by Joyce Taylor

One of the projects of the NSDAR is to have each chapter open at least one “Little Library,” so Karen Hudson, Regent of the Colonel Hardy Murfree Chapter, asked Gloria and Ted LaRoche to assist in making this happen by contributing the funds for opening one. This generous couple then decided to fund not just one, but three of the libraries, valuing the benefits of reading for all ages. The first of these “Little Libraries” has been installed at the home of Marzee and W.D. Woodward on Sunset Avenue. This library is appropriately named, “Sunset Reads.”

These libraries resemble over-sized mailboxes, but are decorated appropriately. Readers are encouraged to take the books, either borrowing them and passing them along, or returning them when finished. The Woodwards provided s’mores and cocoa, as well as a bookmark and story station for children.

These friendly ladies meet monthly and welcome new members. For more information, contact them at [email protected].
