Story and Photography by Joyce Taylor

On a beautiful October evening, supporters of Doors of Hope gathered at Copper Ridge for their annual Firefly Supper. Executive Director Jackie Miller welcomed guests, followed by Board Chair Steve Daniel’s invocation. It was fitting that Lucy Warner was the recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award, named for her late husband. Dr. Bart Warner was a tireless worker for Doors and Lucy has continued his work. Featured speaker was Trent Hughes, who related his “story of hope.”

The mission of Doors of Hope is to empower women to break the cycle of addiction, homelessness and incarceration. Ray Singer concluded the program by asking guests to “join the story,” by donating to assist more women in their recovery. The national average for recidivism is 58%, but with the women Doors has assisted, the rate is 3%.
