8th Annual Special Kids Race

Story and photography by Eric Lusk

The 8th Annual Special Kids Race, presented by Murfreesboro Medical Clinic, was another huge success this year, thanks in-part to the weather cooperating and giving runners cool, dry conditions! Approximately 3,000 runners followed the historic route around and through the Stones River National Battlefield.

The Special Kids Race exists to bring awareness and financial support to the ministry of Special Kids. This Christian nonprofit provides therapy and nursing services to children with special needs in middle Tennessee. Through the Special Kids Race, participants support the organization by registering to run or walk the 15K, 10K, 5K, or 1 Mile distances and by having the option to fundraise for Special Kids.

This year, the revenue generated from the race equaled nearly 20% of the $1.4 million dollars needed annually to help keep operations up and running at Special Kids.
