Kevin Creasy started his coaching career at Warren County Middle School where he volunteered as a high school coach. After several other stops, he eventually landed in Murfreesboro in 2007 when he was named Riverdale’s defensive coordinator.
“I became a head coach the following year at Trousdale County and moved again,” he said. “I moved one more time back to Murfreesboro to become the head coach at Oakland in March of 2015.”
Creasy has seen it all over the years, but he says there’s no rivalry bigger than Oakland and Riverdale’s.
“You can throw the records out the window and know that it will be a tough, hard-hitting contest for both teams,” he said. Creasy draws inspiration from several of his early influences, especially Bobby Sharp, his own high school coach. From him, Creasy learned how to treat players and handle adversity.
Creasy’s fondest memory as a coach came in 2008, when he was head coach at Trousdale. His team scrimmaged the defending state champions, South Pittsburg, that spring and lost 49 0. Later that year, they hosted South Pittsburg in the quarter-finals.
“It was 5-0 at halftime and five degrees outside,” he said. “They scored and the game was 6-5 for the longest time. We won on the final drive 13-6. We went on to go undefeated and win the state championship a couple weeks later.”
Looking ahead toward this year, Creasy is excited to watch his own son play his first middle school ball game at Oakland.
