Doug Vandiver has upheld the company’s motto “Quality Homes Built to Last”, through his 35 years in business and built a solid reputation in the process. In fact, Doug has built the personal residence of several active custom home builders in the area as well as many top real estate agents. The company garners a significant amount of repeat and referral business, which speaks volumes about his client relationships, local reputation, and of course, caliber of his work.

Doug got his start in construction while he was still in high school. He worked for a contractor in his hometown of Lewisburg, TN. While attending college at Middle Tennessee State University, he worked as a framer, trim carpenter, and roofer. He was also lucky enough to work with several established custom home builders who were willing to spend time developing new talent. A real estate agent whose home Doug was working on at the time convinced him to get his contractor’s license, so he did and founded his company in the early 80s.

Over the years, Vandiver has maintained a thriving business, despite several periods of economic recession in Tennessee. Two things that truly set Vandiver Construction apart from the competition is the hands on experience and attention to detail. Doug has actually physically worked in the trades that he oversees, which allows him to immediately detect problems when they arise and find a smarter solution.

Doug is meticulous in his work, as evidenced in every finished home. Vandiver chooses to build between 4 and 6 homes a year so he is able to be at every job, every day. He is there with his customers through all stages of the building process from the first meeting with an architect to the final walk-through. This hand-on approach allows Doug to provide cost-effective suggestions regarding the best materials and processes in real time to his clients. As a result, Vandiver Construction turns a client’s dream home into a reality, within budget and on time.

Doug likes spending his free time with family, especially his granddaughters--Harper (3) and McClain (3 mo.). He also enjoys exercising, watching Alabama football, and coaching soccer. He has coached soccer since his daughter, Haley (27), was just five-years-old and won 9 state championships with her team. He coached three other teams, winning the State Championship 3 more times and placing 2nd two times.

As Vandiver Construction enters this next stage of growth, they are excited to add Haley Vandiver Mobbs to the team as Vice President. She will work side-by-side with her father to learn his trade as well as help the company expand its media presence and community involvement.
