Main Street Murfreesboro 25th Annual JazzFest

Story and photography by Eric Lusk

The historic 1859 Rutherford County Courthouse was the backdrop for Main Street Murfreesboro’s annual JazzFest. Middle school and high school jazz bands livened up the cool crisp weather weekend leading to professional jazz bands. All was made possible by presenting sponsors T-Mobile and First Bank. The Jake Leg Stompers kicked off the afternoon. They were followed by Thane Shearon and Friends. Murfreesboro’s own Ben Tankard performed his gospel set after that. A 20-piece band known as The Establishment was next, who got the audience off their chairs for dancing. And finally, Tennessee-based Higher Ground Band closed out the evening.

Main Street is committed to maintaining, enhancing and promoting the historic downtown as the heart of our community. The organization capitalizes on the unique character of the courthouse square and the surrounding business district with the goal of transforming it into the cultural, social, professional and retail center of Rutherford County.
