Black History Celebration

Story and photography by Eric Lusk

As February’s Black History month came to a close, the non-profit organization, Black Murfreesboro, helped host a celebration at the Discovery Center at Murfree Spring. A critical part of Black Murfreesboro’s mission is to help promote and connect black-owned businesses. So during this year’s Black History Celebration, the organization welcomed a variety of local food trucks, vendors and other black-owned businesses to display, engage and inform attendees about their work.

With the threat of thunderstorms, some of the non-rainfriendly merchants decided to set up inside. There, you could find a variety of handmade and local artistry and even Gramma’s Hands Sweetery (if you’ve never tried this place… stop… look it up right now and order… you’ll thank me later).

Black Murfreesboro is looking forward to multiple events in 2021 to help further the education and cause. To find out more, follow them on Facebook.
