Cookin’ to Build

STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY ERIC LUSK

The folks at Rutherford County Habitat for Humanity dialed up a near perfect day for their 12th Annual Cookin’ to Build event on the Murfreesboro Public Square. Approximately 700 people visited with friends and listened to great musical entertainment from talented Murfreesboro City School students while they walked around and enjoyed samples of the many chilies, soups, stews and other delicious offerings. Over 30 cooking teams comprised of civic organizations, groups, churches, schools and local businesses duked it out for the bragging rights and for the satisfaction of knowing their efforts made a difference in the lives of others. Included with the ticket price was a hand-painted bowl to take home.

This popular annual food event raises money for Rutherford County Habitat for Humanity to help build affordable houses in Rutherford County and offer financial literacy and homeowner education for future homeowners. For more information on Habitat, visit www.rchfh.org.
