Cookin' To Build

Story and Photography by Joyce Taylor

On a beautiful Saturday in November, a large group assembled at the Historic Murfreesboro Town Square to support Habitat for Humanity. The event featured more than 30 food vendors offering a variety of chilis, soups, stews, gumbos, as well as desserts and beverages, with attendees receiving a commemorative bowl. Representatives from organizations, churches and schools staffed booths and prepared their signature recipes. Attendees participated in a friendly competition by voting for their preferred cooking team after sampling the offerings from each booth. This initiative provided an opportunity to enjoy lunch, connect with community members and contribute to the Habitat for Humanity cause.

Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to ensure that everyone has access to safe and affordable housing. The organization regards housing as a fundamental human right and is committed to fostering strength, stability and self-reliance among families.
