12th Annual Middle Half

Story and photography by Eric Lusk

Runners from all over once again took to the streets of Murfreesboro for the 12th annual running of the Middle Half. Known for it’s flat, fast course, the course has become a fall favorite for race enthusiasts.

The 13.1 mile course has participants running up and down treelined Main Street, past historic Oaklands Mansion, and circling the Downtown Square. After passing Middle Tennessee State University’s Fraternity Row and the official geographic center of Tennessee, runners (and walkers) finish in style on the track inside MTSU’s Track and Soccer Stadium.

To say the race is popular is quite the understatement, as the race once again quickly reached it’s capacity of 2500. This year’s race touted near-perfect running conditions warming up to the 60’s by race end.
