10th Annual Sneaker Ball

Story and photography by Eric Lusk

The 10th Annual First Shot Sneaker Ball recently took place at World Outreach Church in Murfreesboro. Under the direction of Coach Andy Herzer, First Shot Basketball programs enable children of all ages to participate in sports programs. The activities further equip kids with fundamental life skills through mentoring programs in a Christ centered atmosphere.

This fun-filled, inspiring event featured guest speaker, Tamika Catchings. Tamika was one of the stars of the National Championship University of Tennessee women’s basketball team, then drafted by the Indiana Fever. After a career filled with records, awards and success, she released her autobiography, Catch A Star: Shining through Adversity to Become a Champion, sharing her story of overcoming hearing loss, separation from family, high expectations and the pain of debilitating physical injuries. She reached for the stars with hard work, perseverance and her faith in God.

If you are interested in sending a child to a youth camp, the cost is $100 per child scholarship. Please contact Andy Herzer at www.1stshotbasketball.net and donate generously today.
