MTAR: Working Together for You and Our Community

By Lynn Tede, 2018 MTAR President

Middle Tennessee Association of Realtors (MTAR) represents Real Estate professionals from many backgrounds and services, including residential, commercial, appraisal, property management, development. These professionals are approximately 1800 members from eight Tennessee counties: Bedford, Cannon, Coffee, Grundy, Marion, Moore and Rutherford.

The core mission of MTAR is to support professionalism with training, advocacy and tools to help us serve all clients and customers equally and ethically.  They subscribe to a Code of Ethics that is over 100 years old, and grows and adapts to the contemporary market, providing clients, the public and our fellow professionals with a standard of service that is measurable and clear.

MTAR specifically supports Equal Opportunity in Housing for everyone.  This year the industry is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act, and it is as vital and strong today as it ever was.  As strong advocates for the industry and the community, fighting for private property rights for every landowner, MTAR proudly took a busload of members and affiliates to meet with state legislators in Nashville to address 2018 proposed legislation that is good or not-so-good for our communities or our industry.

Last year, they fought for the extension of the National Flood Insurance Program, working to keep it funded by the federal government and to remain affordable for the individual home owner.  Think of the devastation that people would face if this program is ever cut or unfunded. The loss of your home and all of your belongings in a flood, in an instant, could be crippling without flood insurance.  MTAR also fights for tax reform to avoid financial consequences that would make home ownership less available and more costly.

MTAR provides updated training on the many technology tools needed to serve todays savvy buyers and sellers, targeted training for specialty markets for first time buyers, seniors and investors. In their communities, MTAR is active in supporting housing issues and community assets.  They offer local graduating seniors scholarship assistance through our scholarship program, now in its 20th year.  They also sponsor community activities that enhance the lives of citizens such as arts, music and theatre, as well as volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Coat Drives and Food Bank support, National Night Out and Veterans programs, just to name a few.

MTAR is so much more than realtors coming together to become better at their profession, it is a very valuable group of professionals who work diligently together to make sure that our communities are the best in which to live.
