Pampering your Pet

By Becca George

Our pets are our constant companions, they are the first one to greet us in the morning, the one waiting excitedly when we arrive at home, and the one who is there for snuggles on the couch anytime we need them; our pets are part of our family.  It is no surprise that we like to pamper them and treat them as such. Murfreesboro has a lot to offer our furry friends and their owners.

Treat Me Good Dog Barkery

Trips to the bakery are no longer just for two-legged family members but can be enjoyed by the four-legged variety at Treat Me Good Dog Barkery. “Owning and operating this store is so much fun,” says Brandy Ridge, owner of the Barkery, “{I love} just being able to love on and pamper the fur babies that walk through our door.  We are offering pet parents an option for treats they know are safe for their babies.”

Treat Me Good is a dog barkery that offers a variety of treats for furry friends including a dry treat bar where you can mix and match your treat bags with large and small bones in various flavors and dehydrated fruits and vegetables. They also offer pig ears, cow hooves and dental chews.  It doesn’t end with the savory treats, they offer pupcakes, mini cakes, cookie sandwiches, iced cookies, doggie doughnuts and more.  A popular pupcake is shepherd’s pie: a meaty and vegetable bottom with mashed potato icing sprinkled with cheese and bacon on top. “We make everything in house and only with the ingredients we would use ourselves,” explains Brandy.

Treat Me Good offers more than just treats. They take orders for cakes and pies for birthdays, adoption day or any four-legged celebration day. They have partnered with Molly’s Pampered Pets to do onsite grooming and they also offer a doggie daycare.  There is a full retail section of the store that offers anything from outfits and party hats to toys, dog beds and grooming items.  Treat Me Good has plans to host an offsite doggie day-camp this summer that will include a pool, sand pit, tunnels, agility toys and room to run and play.

Playing in the pool, facials and first class accommodations sound like a dream vacation but these are all amenities that Safari Pet Resort offers the furry members of your family. Safari is family owned and operated and has been in Middle Tennessee for over 35 years. They offer overnight lodging for dogs and cats, doggie daycare, a full grooming and bathing salon, a saltwater swimming pool, free pick-up and delivery and obedience training.

“Because we want every pet to ‘Go on Adventure’ while they’re at Safari, we offer some truly unique services for our four-legged friends and their families,” explains Anna Raitt, Marketing Director for Safari. “Whether it’s our Saltwater Lagoon Swimming Pool, our fun Doggie Day Camp with seasonal parties and Pup-Crafts, our convenient Adventure Bus services, our proven Load and Learn Training (we train while you’re away), our free live webcam, our private Bungalow Suites with TVs or getting a Fruity Facial in our full-service salon—your pet will have an Adventure at Safari!”

Safari Pet Resort also offers The Adventure Bus as a complimentary amenity for those staying at the day camp. The Adventure bus will transport your pet to and from Safari and features private enclosures and flat-screen TV viewing.

At Safari they care deeply for the welfare of all local pets, not just the ones they are pampering.  “We love partnering with the wonderful pet organizations in town,” explains Anna, “We invite adoptable pets from Rutherford County P.A.W.S. for a free spa day in February to help them find their forever home in time for Valentine’s Day. It’s great to see how far a little shampoo and hair trim goes toward re-homing these deserving pets.  To date, every Safari “make-over” pet has been adopted!”

Safari stands behind their services and offers discounts such as a free day of doggie daycare, a free overnight stay or 25% off a groom or bath to welcome new pets.

The Bark Park

With a new initiative for a healthier community we are not the only ones who need to get active, our pets need a place to run and play!  The Murfreesboro Bark Park is a fenced, off-leash park that offers separate areas for large and small breed dogs.
The park is just off the greenway and is conveniently close to a great place for dogs to play in the water of the Stones River.  The park offers a waste station and provides bags for clean up and also has a canine-friendly water fountain.  The Bark Park is a great place to take your furry friends for a doggie play date or just some time to socialize with other pups.

Licker and Whine Pet Market

No two pets are alike; every pet has their favorite toy or food and fur parents want to spoil their pets with the best products.  Licker and Whine Pet Market is a great place to do just that. Their tag line is “Nourish the true spirit of your pet.”  They carry healthy, premium foods and treats for dogs and cats as well as grooming products and toys.

“We are always looking for the best products we can find for our pets,” says Jeannine Hill, owner of Licker and Whine, “Our pets are our fur kids, we want what’s best for them just as our customers do their pets.”  Charlie and Sasha are Jeannine’s fur kids and the official testers for the store.

The bakery items have become store favorites. Jeannine explains that customers can choose from birthday cakes to yogurt iced bones and fun treats like BBQ chicken or buffalo provolone wraps and their flavors change seasonally.

“We are always looking for healthy, unique, durable products for the store,” explains Jeannine. They are also open to customer suggestions and several of the items in the store have been customer suggestions. Some of the products they offer are local as well such as Spoil Me S’mo from Alexandria, TN and Little Seed Farms from Lebanon, TN.

At Licker and Whine they truly love and enjoy each and every pet and their pet-parents who visit the store.  They know the pets by name, know their personalities and remember what their favorite toys are.  “Shopping at Licker and Whine Pet Market is a personal experience. Doggie’s Day Out

We love our four-legged friends and just like the babies of the two-legged variety, our fur babies need care.  Doggies Day Out offers a unique, cage-free environment for your dogs to relax through their daycare and boarding.  They take the time to get to know each dog, learning their activity interests and personal traits to make sure each day is enjoyable for your dog.

Dogs are given a chance to socialize through indoor and outdoor play. Doggie’s Day Out hand selects a play group for each canine guest to ensure comfort and safety.  They offer air conditioned indoor play areas, relaxing lounges, and shaded outdoor play areas. Some of the games they play include ball chasing, tug-o-war and pools.

Through their boarding program they offer full day-care access during the day along with a raised cot, blanket and individual meals overnight. They offer around-the-clock care for all dogs, including the ones staying overnight.

Another amenity is their Cute and Comfortable Grooming. They offer specialized grooming while taking the time to make your dog’s grooming experience as fun as possible.  They also offer a bakery with nutritious treats using wholesome ingredients to pamper your pup!

Good Shepherd Pet Crematory

Our pets become part of our families and are at home with us for many years. Losing a pet can be a traumatic thing and many families want to make sure their pets are honored and remembered. Good Shepherd Pet Services, with an office based in Murfreesboro, serves Middle Tennessee families and vets through cremation services, grief counseling and more.

Tom Metier, who runs the Murfreesboro location is passionate about what he does and how he helps, both directly and indirectly, each family who loses a loved fur-baby.  He works with many veterinarian offices for cremation services for those animals lost at their office. Tom also works with families directly and picks up animals to transfer them to his facility. “I think it is important that the people doing this are pet owners and lovers,” says Tom. “For me it is a real blessing to be able to help people out in this way.” Tom himself is a pet owner to a menagerie of animals including three cats, four dogs, six horses and a turtle.

“Good Shepherd uses the same type of equipment and holds to the same standards you would see at any funeral home, including Woodfin’s,” explains Tom.  The process is environmentally sound and doesn’t emit any smells or smoke. Tom attends extensive training and conferences for funeral directors each year. Good Shepherd offers many ways to memorialize your pets from urns and memorial markers to memory chests, scatter tubes and tribute frames.  “We are offering a well needed service,” says Tom, “It is an important part of closure for grief.”
