The Center for the Arts featured the seasonally appropriate musical, The Addams Family, A New Musical, from October 16 through November 1. At the showing on Friday, October 30, the house was packed with theater enthusiasts, some dressed in Halloween attire. Written by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice (Jersey Boys), and Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party), the musical tells a new story surrounding the unconventional family that audiences are not familiar with. In this adaption, daughter Wednesday Addams has grown up and fallen in love with a young man from a respectable family; Wednesday convinces her father not to tell her mother of the infatuation, leaving poor Gomez stuck uncharacteristically lying to his wife, Morticia, whom he worships. Directed by Renee Robinson, the musical featured Murfreesboro actors David Cummings as Gomez Addams, Alexius Frost as Morticia and Shelby Jones as Wednesday.
