On May 21, 2016 Hayley Rae Sloan, daughter of Ben and Barbara Sloan, and Chase O’Neal Johnson, son of Tim and Rose Johnson, were married. Chase went to Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro. He played baseball for Motlow and went to MTSU for his engineering degree. Hayley went to Siegel High School in Murfreesboro. She played soccer for The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and went to Chattanooga State for her Radiologic Technology degree.
The two met in high school back in 2006. Years later they started dating and on May 16, 2015, Chase surprised Hayley with a proposal. The two planned to go hiking in Monteagle with their dogs. On the way up the mountain, they pulled over to view a beautiful overlook in Sewanee that they often visited together. Chase pointed to the ground where he earlier wrote before the two got there, “Hayley, will you marry me?”
The beautiful hillside wedding took place at Events at East 96 in Lascassas, TN. Pastor Mark Gregory led the ceremony. White hydrangeas hanging on shepherds’ hooks lined the aisle next to rows of hay bales. Hayley wore a Maggie Sottero Luella wedding gown and her bridesmaids wore Bill Levkoff sangria colored dresses from The White Room. Her makeup was done by Laura Homer and her hair by Rachel Cothron. The groom and his groomsmen wore light grey suits with sangria ties.
Chase’s wedding band was an heirloom handed down from his adored great grandfather, Alfred O’Neal Johnson, also known as “Daddy Neal”. The ring was passed on to Chase’s father, Tim Johnson, and then passed on to Chase. Meridith Brown captured the photography, Josh Curd handled the videography, and John Ward was the DJ for the event.
All of the flowers for the event were from Import Flowers in Nashville and were all put together by a helpful team of individuals (sisters, mothers, sister-in-laws, aunts, and grandparents). The flowers were a combination of carnations, peonies, ferns, wax flowers, and roses.
The reception was held under a large pavilion on the property. Janet from Draping Designs draped the sides of the pavilion. The rustic chic reception incorporated colors of gold, pink, white, and sangria. The tables were covered with white tablecloths with gold sequin runners, cranberry colored napkins, and gold chargers. Jim N Nicks catered the event and served smoked sausage pimento cheese bites and deviled eggs for appetizers. Pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, green beans, and cheese biscuits were served for the entree. Their white wedding cake was detailed with peonies and baked by Gretta Stone.
The couple took their honeymoon to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. They make their home in Beechgrove, TN. Chase is an Engineer at Nissan and Hayley is a CT Technologist at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.
