Artist and Interiors Stylist Deneen Glidwell always had her hand in some sort of creativity. An artist all her life she decided to start a blog when her last child started college. The blog appropriately named Dreamingincolor led to the opening of a unique gift store and artisan boutique with the same name located in downtown historic Murfreesboro at 504N Maney Avenue. This store is becoming a favorite with locals and people throughout Tennessee because of its eclectic charm, beautiful furniture and unique gifts. Deneen also ships merchandise throughout the United States and beyond.
Dreamingincolor’s vintage vibe mixes well with the new market finds and one-of-a-kind furniture that she customs paints for the store and for hire. She has even been known to create Pinterest pieces for customers and hand paint different logos and monograms on anything from furniture to found objects.
She offers Design Services, Custom Painting with her paint line (Country Chic Chalk and Mineral based paint with no VOC’s), and specialty classes. Her next Furniture Painting Class will be April 29th 10:30a-1p. These classes sell out quick so call to register or better yet go visit the store.
Deneen has worked with several companies HGTV, Michaels, Modern Masters to name a few and currently writes for Old Time Pottery. She has been featured in local and National magazines like Real Simple and has been on TV’s Talk of the Town. Recently she was a reader’s favorite for Nashville’s House & Home & Garden Magazine for favorite Re-designer and Muralist. The store was awarded Best Home Decor and Accessories Store and Store for Special Finds. She also was awarded Favorite Artist and Used Furniture Store from Murfreesboro Magazine and DNJ Ruthies this year.
Dreamingincolor features local artisans, who sell their one of a kind merchandise in the store, and also participates in the Boro Art Crawl to promote local artists creations including her resident artists jewelry, art, signs, pottery and more. Deneen will also be hosting her 2nd Youth Art Competition on June 9th to support young artists K-12. Last competition a “best in show” youth artist went on to have her own show in the Crawl and now sells her beautiful work. Details to enter will be found on the blog/website, www.dreaming-n-color.com.
This is a store you go to find something different. Deneen loves to greet each customer and offers design advice to those looking for special home accents. From time to time you can meet Deneen’s dog as he has become a mascot for the store and even has a paint color named after him! There is a lot of parking around the store and in a lot on Bell Street. If you need to take a break you can sit on the porch and watch the sun set. This is what local small business is all about. Hope you take time to visit and shop, you won’t find another place like it!
