Story and Photography by Joyce Taylor
On the evening of November 1st, members of the Murfreesboro community gathered to celebrate a longstanding historic stronghold, Oaklands Mansion and Museum. After a harvest menu served by Carriage Lane Inn, guest speaker, Bill Shacklett, City Council Member and owner of Shacklett’s Photography, presented a photographic journey of the history of downtown Murfreesboro. Mr. Shacklett’s presentation entitled “Then & Now” is also the title of his book co-authored with John Lodi, Executive Director of the Rutherford County Archives.
Attendees shopped at the jewelry trunk show, which is running through December 8 in the museum gift shop. Handmade beaded necklaces, earrings and bracelets created by Deborah Shearon of Murfreesboro are featured in this show of one-of-a-kind pieces of wearable art.
